The Osun State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the recent attack on Egbedi community in Ido-Osun Local Government Area, alleging that individuals from Ede land—reportedly enjoying the backing of Governor Ademola Adeleke—were behind the assault.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Akinlade Semiu, on Friday, the party described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of violence.
“This is not an isolated incident. The people of Ede have been terrorizing Egbedi for some time,” the AAC stated.
The opposition party expressed deep concern over what it called the “nonchalant” attitude of the Osun State Police Command, accusing the command of compromising its neutrality and exposing itself to manipulation by those in power.
The AAC demanded that all individuals captured in the viral video of the attack—including any associates of the Governor—be declared wanted and prosecuted.
The statement read in part:
“We, the African Action Congress Osun State Chapter, strongly condemn the recent attack on the people of Egbedi by individuals from Ede land, allegedly backed by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The police command’s inaction has shown vulnerability to political manipulation, and this must not continue.”
The party also warned that continued aggression could trigger a major communal crisis.
“We remind Governor Adeleke that the Ifon/Ilobu communal clash started in a similar way and eventually degenerated into a bloodbath with loss of lives and properties. If urgent steps are not taken, history may repeat itself,” it said.
The AAC demanded that:
-
Individuals identified in the viral video, including alleged associates of the Governor, be declared wanted immediately.
-
The Osun State Police Command conduct a thorough investigation and ensure perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
Commending the Egbedi community for what it described as “maturity and restraint in the face of provocation,” the party reaffirmed its solidarity with them.
“We stand with the people of Egbedi and demand justice. Their restraint in the face of violent intimidation is commendable,” the AAC concluded.
