The Presidency has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of exploiting the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari to gain political relevance.

In a statement on Saturday, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, described the ADC’s allegations that the administration is politicising Buhari’s death as “obnoxious, laughable, and insulting to millions of mourning Nigerians.”

“This is not the first time the ADC, in its pitiful, stuttering attempts at reinvention, has embarrassed itself with hollow, attention-seeking criticisms and press releases,” Dare said.

The ADC had earlier accused the Tinubu administration of using Buhari’s passing for political advantage. But Dare countered, stating it is the ADC itself “dancing on Buhari’s grave for relevance.”

He also accused the opposition of choreographing the arrival of political figures like Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai at Buhari’s burial in Daura, framing it as a political stunt rather than a gesture of condolence.

Describing the ADC as a “poorly amalgamated political contraption,” Dare asserted that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dare listed the administration’s achievements, including:

  • Stabilisation of the Naira and harmonisation of exchange rates

  • Increase in oil production to 1.7 million barrels per day

  • Over 60% increase in FAAC allocations, enabling 31 states to clear debts and pay salaries

  • Infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Road

  • Restoration of power to previously neglected communities

  • Implementation of the NELFUND student loan scheme benefiting 400,000 students

  • Launch of Regional Development Commissions and the National Consumer Credit Scheme

He defended Buhari’s state burial, stating it was conducted with “complete honour befitting a leader of his stature” and attended by global dignitaries.

Dare urged Nigerians to ignore the “desperate antics of political scavengers” and reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration’s focus remains on “delivering Renewed Hope to Nigerians.”
