Former presidential candidate and chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports claiming he has concluded plans to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso also refuted claims that he had written to the APC National Chairman to notify him of such a decision. He further denied speculation that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was preparing to defect to the ruling party alongside him.
In a statement released on Friday via his 𝕏 account, the former Kano State Governor urged the public to disregard the reports, stressing that only information from established official channels should be trusted.
“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country. We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party. The public is therefore advised to stay informed of any further information regarding our matter through the established official channels,” he stated.
Kwankwaso, however, recently told his supporters that he would be willing to return to the APC if there were concrete assurances that he and his political associates would be respected and valued.
He recalled that he was one of the founding members of the APC but left due to what he described as neglect during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He added that he also left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for similar reasons.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Kwankwaso maintained that he has grown in political value since leaving the major parties and is in no rush to abandon the NNPP. He, however, expressed openness to working with both the APC and the PDP if genuine commitments are made.
