Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party has been hijacked by anti-democratic forces both within and outside its ranks.

Momodu, who is also the publisher of Ovation International, made his resignation known in a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

In the letter, Momodu expressed gratitude to the ward leadership for their support during his time in the party but stated that it was no longer tenable to remain under the current circumstances.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” Momodu wrote.

Political Realignment in Edo State

Momodu’s defection to the ADC signals a notable shift in Edo State’s political landscape and adds to the growing momentum of the ADC coalition, which has been positioning itself as a fresh alternative to Nigeria's dominant parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His exit further deepens the internal crisis within the PDP, which has recently witnessed high-profile resignations, including that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

With political realignments accelerating, observers anticipate more movements across party lines in the coming months as politicians reposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
