A total of 305 Nigerians have returned home from South Africa under the Federal Government’s voluntary repatriation programme. The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and were received by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other government agencies.
According to NEMA, the programme was organised in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It is designed to help Nigerians who wish to return home voluntarily due to personal or economic reasons.
Government officials said the returnees would receive basic support to help them settle back into life in Nigeria. This includes assistance aimed at making their reintegration into society easier.
The Federal Government has encouraged Nigerians living abroad to always use legal channels when travelling or seeking opportunities overseas. It also promised to continue supporting citizens who choose to return home through approved programmes.
