National Assembly Worse Than Bandits In The Forest – Adeyanju

Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has strongly criticized the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, saying it has “taken Nigeria backwards.”

Adeyanju’s comments came in response to the signing of the new Electoral Amendment Bill by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday. Speaking on AIT, he described Akpabio and his lawmakers as unfit for public office, suggesting they “should be farming sugarcane in Ogbomosho, Oyo State” instead of legislating.

He said, “They have taken us back to 2003 where people can just wake up and write results… This is a doomed National Assembly… worse than bandits in the forest… political armed robbers.”

Adeyanju further accused the lawmakers of mismanaging public funds, stating, “What do we need a National Assembly for if this is what they are buying cars yearly for, stealing billions… These people are enemies of the country.”

He proposed radical reforms, arguing that politics should be a hobby, not a profession: “Let professionals like lawyers, medical doctors, engineers, and surgeons leave their offices and go to the National Assembly to serve voluntarily for one week.”

Adeyanju’s scathing remarks underscore growing public frustration with the current legislature and the controversial electoral bill signed into law.
