Voters thronged Garki Village Polling Unit 004 early Saturday, lining up under heightened security to cast their ballots in the ongoing FCT council elections. Among the early voters was the AMAC chairman, seen exercising his franchise amid tight security, with electoral officials on standby to ensure a smooth voting process.
Election officials urged residents to maintain order and follow voting protocols as the exercise continues throughout the day, with results expected once counting concludes. Voting also commenced at Garki Village Polling Unit 036 by 8:30 a.m., under close watch of security operatives.
However, tension was reported at Polling Unit 141, LEA Primary School, Karamajiji, Gwarinmpa (Area Code 05), where suspected political thugs loitered, delaying the start of voting. Election materials arrived at around 9:03 a.m., but accreditation only began at 10:10 a.m., leaving early voters anxious.
Residents expressed concern over unfamiliar faces and the presence of party agents near the premises, despite deployment of security operatives. Accreditation continued under strict supervision, with voters hoping for a peaceful exercise amid the uneasy atmosphere.
