[JUST IN]: IPOB Issues Global Directive Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Medical, Legal Support (Full Details)

A fresh internal memorandum released by Emma Powerful, spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on members worldwide to mobilise urgent global support for the medical treatment and legal defence of the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The memo, dated February 13, 2026, and circulated to coordinators, unit leaders and members across different regions, described the initiative as a “collective responsibility” requiring immediate action from supporters globally.

Purpose of the Directive

According to the document, the leadership urged members to channel support through three organisations said to have consistently backed Kanu’s cause. These include American Veterans of Igbo DescentAmbassadors for Self-Determination, and Rising Sun Foundation.

The memo stated that the organisations have reportedly handled diplomatic engagements, medical coordination and legal responsibilities on behalf of the movement over the years.

Rising Costs and Logistical Challenges

IPOB leadership explained that Kanu’s transfer to Sokoto prison has significantly increased the financial burden of maintaining consistent legal and medical access.
The document claimed that key attorneys and the lead physician remain Abuja-based, meaning each visit requires frequent air travel and logistics planning.

Members were told that while broader fundraising plans may come later in the year, the immediate focus is on supporting the current intervention effort to ensure continuity of care and legal representation.

Health Concerns Raised

The memo alleged that Kanu is facing ongoing health complications linked to past experiences during his detention. The issues highlighted include electrolyte imbalance, heart-related concerns and hearing complications reportedly associated with earlier trauma.

IPOB leadership stressed that sustained medical monitoring and legal defence are essential during this period.

Call for Unity and Discipline

In addition to financial mobilisation, the memo urged members worldwide to prioritise unity, avoid internal disputes and remain cautious of misinformation. It also mentioned an upcoming international announcement expected in the coming week, which the group described as a significant development in its diplomatic engagements.

Members were instructed to circulate fundraising information, encourage voluntary participation and maintain discipline in communications across all structures.

Final Remarks

The statement concluded by emphasising solidarity and collective action among supporters, describing the period as a crucial moment requiring coordination and focus across the global network.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Nigerian authorities regarding the contents of the memo or the claims contained within it.
