The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of running the most divisive government in Nigeria’s history, alleging nepotism, cronyism, and manipulation of infrastructure records.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the government’s recently released progress report—“Infrastructure Equity for Every Region. Progress for Every Nigerian. The Renewed Hope Agenda in Action”—as nothing more than propaganda.
“This is the most divisive government we have ever had, where government business is run like an exclusive membership club,” Abdullahi declared.
The ADC highlighted several inconsistencies in the report, accusing the Tinubu administration of deliberately misclassifying projects to create the impression of fairness in regional distribution.
Examples cited include:
-
The Damaturu–Maiduguri road, and Bama and Dikwa roads, all located in Borno and Yobe States (North-East), but listed as North-West projects.
-
The Lokoja–Okene dualisation project in Kogi and the Benue–9th Mile road, both in the North-Central, but also credited to the North-West.
The party further alleged that some projects appeared twice—correctly listed under their real regions and again under the North-West—suggesting what it described as an attempt to pad the records.
“We know that budgets have allegedly been padded by this administration, but this is the first time we have seen infographics padded with such brazen creativity,” Abdullahi said.
According to the ADC, Tinubu’s government is also recycling projects from the Buhari era and presenting them as fresh achievements. It faulted the administration for failing to disclose critical details such as contract costs, the contractors involved, or the procurement procedures followed.
“What, for example, is the cost of the Badagry–Sokoto Highway? Why are we not told how much has been spent, with whom the contracts were signed, or what procurement procedures were followed?” Abdullahi queried.
The ADC linked the controversy to what it described as Tinubu’s wider pattern of selective disclosure and manipulation, citing the earlier release of an incomplete list of political appointees without details of their responsibilities.
Abdullahi said the Tinubu administration had not only deepened national divisions but also disappointed leaders and citizens who had expected inclusiveness. “No amount of propaganda or PowerPoint presentations can substitute for genuine inclusion, fairness, and transparency,” he warned.
The opposition party pledged that under an ADC-led government, project distribution would be equitable and transparent, with a focus on fairness, competence, and unity.
