Oleksandr Usyk defended his undisputed heavyweight boxing championship in spectacular fashion, stopping Daniel Dubois in the fifth round during their high-stakes bout at Wembley Stadium, London.
The Ukrainian champion dominated from the opening bell, with Dubois unable to match Usyk’s slick footwork and precision. The fight came to an emphatic end in the fifth round when Usyk, backed against the ropes, landed a sharp left hook that sent Dubois to the canvas. Although Dubois managed to beat the count, Usyk floored him again moments later, sealing the victory by stoppage.
Following his win, the 38-year-old Usyk hinted at potential future opponents, sparking excitement over possible trilogy bouts with either Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua.
“Maybe it’s Tyson Fury. Maybe we have three choices — Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua, maybe Joseph Parker. I can’t say now because I want to rest and return home to my family,” Usyk said, to cheers from the Wembley crowd.
The victory further solidified Usyk’s claim as the sport’s pound-for-pound best, especially after his back-to-back wins over Tyson Fury — first unifying the heavyweight division in May, then defeating Fury again during the festive season.
For Dubois, the loss marks a setback in his comeback journey. Having controversially lost to Usyk nearly two years ago, Dubois had fought his way back with notable victories over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, even defeating Anthony Joshua in a dominant five-round bout. However, his progress was halted at Wembley in front of a packed, expectant crowd.
