President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The appointment was disclosed on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Engr. Ramat, 39, is a trained electrical engineer and seasoned administrator who holds a PhD in Strategic Management among other academic qualifications. To prevent a leadership vacuum in the nation’s critical power regulatory agency, President Tinubu has directed that Ramat assume office in an acting capacity, pending Senate confirmation as required by law.

Additionally, the President has nominated two commissioners to serve on the NERC board:

President Tinubu urged the appointees to leverage their expertise in advancing the administration’s power sector agenda.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has sanctioned 116 personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for various disciplinary infractions.

According to a statement by NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) took action after reviewing 224 disciplinary cases involving correctional officers nationwide.

Following the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC) investigations:

  • 15 officers were dismissed for gross misconduct

  • 59 officers were demoted for breaching professional standards

  • 42 personnel received written warnings as corrective measures

Abubakar said the disciplinary measures underscore the government’s commitment to accountability and the integrity of the Correctional Service.
