The Global Defence Consortium of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has warned the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the National Judicial Council (NJC), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to act on a petition regarding alleged judicial infractions or face escalation to the International Bar Association (IBA).

In a public briefing on Tuesday, Barrister Onyedikachi Ifedi, representing Kanu, demanded an immediate halt to what he described as the “unlawful persecution” of his client and called for a transparent investigation of Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal.

The consortium accused the judges of issuing rulings based on repealed laws, violating constitutional provisions on fair hearing and double jeopardy, and endorsing what they called an “illegal rendition” of Kanu in violation of national and international law.

“If the NBA, NJC, and NHRC continue to ignore these infractions, we shall formally petition the International Bar Association to suspend Nigeria from membership until a transparent investigation is conducted,” the statement warned.

The consortium described the continued persecution of Kanu as a blatant violation of the Constitution, asserting that no court has the power to resurrect repealed laws or endorse illegal abductions.

The group urged immediate public action, stressing that silence in the face of injustice equates to endorsement of oppression.
