Offa, Kwara State – Naija Blog – Students of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa have decried the deplorable state of their hostel facilities, describing their living conditions as “unfit for human habitation.”

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Comrade Issa Abdulgafar (popularly known as Saoty), Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State Chapter, visited the college hostel and expressed shock at its appalling condition.

“Are you sure students are living here?” he asked in disbelief while inspecting one of the decaying hostel rooms.

The students confirmed the facility was indeed their residence, pointing to worn-out bunk beds, dilapidated infrastructure, and an overwhelming stench that permeated the air.

“This Is a Health College?” – NANS Leader Questions School Management

Visibly angered, Abdulgafar condemned the school management’s failure to maintain basic hygiene standards. He criticised the administration for allegedly collecting fees from students while providing poor living conditions, and still proposing a fee hike.

“This is supposed to be a professional health institution. Yet students are living in this condition. And the same management wants to increase their school fees. This is not acceptable,” he said.

Abdulgafar emphasised the irony of such poor conditions in an institution responsible for training future health workers.

Kwara South Youth Congress Accuses Government of Propaganda

Meanwhile, the Kwara South Youth Congress (KSYC) has accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's media aide, Fafoluyi Olayinka, of attempting to cover up the truth.

In a statement by KSYC spokesperson Adejare Bashir, the group expressed dismay at the state government’s lack of urgency and accountability.

Bashir referenced the viral video by the NANS chairman, noting that the state of the hostels reflects a “pattern of neglect by the government towards the people of Kwara South.”

“A responsible government would have sent officials to the school to engage directly with affected students. Instead, we received a misleading media post from Olayinka using images from a hospital in Osun State,” Bashir said.

He described the media aide’s actions as deceptive and damaging to public trust.

“What are they trying to achieve with such deception? Who are they attempting to impress—the vulnerable students or the affluent citizens of Offa?” he asked.

Bashir also cautioned that governance rooted in propaganda rather than action erodes credibility.

“When a government chooses to manipulate the truth rather than address pressing issues, it reflects irresponsible leadership,” he added.

Call for Immediate Action

Both NANS and KSYC have called on Governor AbdulRazaq to intervene immediately. They urged the state to rehabilitate the college hostels and end the exploitation of students.

“If the government is unable or unwilling to provide necessary support, it should at least refrain from obstructing those who wish to help,” Bashir stated.

As student protests loom and public outrage intensifies, stakeholders warn that failure to act may have political consequences ahead of the 2027 elections.
