The Nigeria Police Force has announced a massive nationwide deployment of officers to ensure security during the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

In a wireless message issued by the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and addressed to all zonal commands, state commissioners of police, and specialized units, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) directed formations to urgently forward salary account details and verified records of nominated personnel on or before Friday, September 19, 2025.

The directive, tagged “very important”, warned that formations would be held responsible for any non-payment of allowances if inaccurate information was provided.

Breakdown of Deployment

The nationwide mobilization will draw personnel from Force Headquarters departments, state commands, specialized units, and tactical formations, with over 20,000 officers expected to participate.

  • Force Headquarters Units: Various departments, including the IGP’s Secretariat, FCID, DFA, DOPS, DTD, DICT, and others, will contribute hundreds of personnel.

  • State Police Commands: Major deployments include 1,500 officers each from Lagos and Rivers States, 1,000 each from FCT and Ogun, and 500 from many other state commands such as Enugu, Oyo, Benue, Kwara, Imo, Edo, and Delta.

  • Specialized Formations: The Police Mobile Force (PMF) will provide the largest contingent, with over 4,000 officers, supported by the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Special Intelligence Squad (SIS), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), K9, Mounted Troop, Marine, Airwing, and Drone Team.

Strict Instructions to Commands

The IGP instructed that all officer details—including AP/F number, rank, full name, IPPIS number, employee code, salary account, bank, and GSM number—must be submitted in both hard and soft copies, formatted in Excel.

Additionally, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police has been directed to submit a comprehensive nominal roll of all officers, including tactical squads under his command.

This represents one of the largest police deployments for an election in recent years, highlighting the importance attached to maintaining peace and security during the Anambra governorship poll
