Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s remarks that Nigerian politics is dominated by betrayal and treachery.
Jonathan, speaking in Benin, Edo State, at the 70th birthday celebration of former Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadomhe, said his failed 2015 re-election bid was marred by betrayal, stressing that “politics in Nigeria is about betrayals.”
Reacting via X, Shehu Sani urged young Nigerians with political ambitions to take Jonathan’s words seriously.
“GEJ just said that Nigerian politics is full of betrayers, liars and traitors. I hope young people aspiring to join politics are listening to him and learning from his experience,” the former Kaduna Central Senator wrote.
Sani, who has himself witnessed the volatility of Nigerian politics, said Jonathan’s statement should serve as a reality check for emerging politicians.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl over Jonathan’s possible return to the political scene in 2027, with some observers suggesting he could once again fly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag in the next general election.
