Naija Blog reports that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced a six-month flight ban on popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as Kwam 1, following an incident of alleged unruly behavior at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The disciplinary action was made public on Thursday during a press briefing by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu.

According to Achimugu, the decision to blacklist the music icon was taken to uphold aviation safety and ensure that all passengers are held to the same standard of conduct, regardless of their status or connections.

“As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria. Everybody involved in this will be brought to book,” Achimugu stated.

The NCAA explained that aviation rules and regulations are designed for the safety of all passengers and must be respected by everyone.

“Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody. These rules are global. There is nothing about the rules that is to antagonise any passenger,” Achimugu added.

The aviation authority further disclosed that it is currently in the process of notifying the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to commence legal proceedings against the veteran singer.

Addressing concerns that Kwam 1’s close relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might influence the outcome of the case, Achimugu clarified that both the President and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, are committed to upholding the rule of law.

“The President, as well as the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, are committed to the rule of law. No individual, regardless of status, is exempt from due process,” he affirmed.

The six-month ban follows public outrage over a viral video showing the singer allegedly attempting to stop a ValueJet flight from departing after he was denied boarding over suspicions that he was carrying alcohol in a prohibited flask.
