Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has called on members of the Kogi State House of Assembly to give unconditional support to his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.

In a video currently circulating on social media, Bello was seen instructing lawmakers to endorse every proposal brought before them by the governor.

“As you are going in there now, go and cooperate with the Speaker and other members of the House of Assembly of Kogi State, and be part of those who support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. Are you getting my point? In everything that comes to the Assembly—everything, everything—even if you don’t understand,” Bello told the legislators.

Governor Ododo, Bello’s political protégé, took over as governor in January 2024 after serving as Auditor-General for Local Governments in the state.

EFCC Charges Against Bello

Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello is currently battling multiple fraud and money laundering charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former governor is accused of misappropriating over ₦80 billion in state funds through questionable transactions, including the purchase of luxury properties in Abuja and Dubai, as well as the alleged payment of foreign school fees through proxies.

The EFCC’s case against Bello remains one of the most high-profile corruption cases involving a former Nigerian governor.
