Phrank Shuaibu, Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has explained that Atiku’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by the party’s loss of relevance and capacity to serve as a credible opposition in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Shuaibu said Atiku’s exit was not an act of retreat but a strategic move motivated by principle and a continued commitment to the country's future.
“He is not giving up. He can’t give up until he sees a better Nigeria. Atiku will not give up until we get rid of this clueless government. He will not give up until we have good leaders for this country called Nigeria,” Shuaibu stated.
Atiku officially announced his departure from the PDP on Wednesday, expressing concerns over the direction and strength of the party.
Shuaibu stressed that the decision was based on the party’s inability to remain a viable opposition force capable of holding the government accountable.
“Leaving PDP is not about fear or capitulation. It is about making an informed decision based on principle,” Shuaibu added.
Atiku’s resignation has stirred reactions within the political landscape, as observers speculate on his next move ahead of the 2027 general elections.
