Naija Blog Reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, criticizing his frequent political defections in what he described as a desperate and unprincipled quest for Nigeria’s presidency.

Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike questioned Atiku’s commitment to any political ideology, alleging that the former vice president has become synonymous with party-hopping solely for personal ambition.

“Atiku was in the PDP in 1999. He left for the Action Congress (AC), came back to the PDP, then moved to APC, and returned to PDP again — all because he wants to be president,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor didn’t stop at political critique, taking a personal jab at the 77-year-old politician:

“If I were his son, I would sit him down and say, ‘Dad, how can you keep hopping from one party to another at almost 80 years old?’”

Wike’s comments come on the heels of reports that Atiku has defected yet again — this time to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — as part of a broader coalition effort aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

He dismissed the move as political desperation, not genuine coalition-building.

“The way the PDP is now, it’s unlikely that Atiku will get the presidential ticket, so he’s not comfortable,” Wike stated. “That’s why he’s pushing for a coalition — it’s not about national interest, it’s about survival.”

Wike’s remarks are the latest in a series of internal criticisms threatening to further fracture the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the next electoral cycle.
