The Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, is currently holding its statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, with key stakeholders in attendance to reposition the party for the challenges ahead.

Among the notable figures present are Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, his deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, and other top-ranking party members. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Sylvester Ejiofor, was represented at the meeting.

A major highlight of the gathering is the planned inauguration of an interim National Working Committee (NWC)that will oversee the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a national convention to elect substantive officers.

Additionally, the NEC is expected to establish several strategic committees, including one to coordinate a nationwide membership re-validation exercise and another to organise upcoming party congresses across various levels.

Party insiders describe the meeting as a pivotal moment in the Labour Party’s internal reorganisation, particularly as it seeks to strengthen its structures and grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 general elections. The NEC deliberations are expected to set the tone for the party’s political trajectory and strategies for future engagements.
