Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has stated that he cannot predetermine who will emerge as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.

Atiku, however, assured party members and supporters that he would stand firmly behind whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the ADC through a free and fair primary election.

Speaking during the welcome ceremony for new defectors into the coalition party in Lagos State on Saturday, Atiku — represented by Prof. Ola Olateju — emphasized that the ADC would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants.

“It is not a thing we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support,” he said.

He stressed that the party leadership would not impose a candidate on the people.

“We are not imposing anyone on the people,” Atiku added.

New Defectors Welcomed

At the Lagos event, the defectors were officially received into the ADC by the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, alongside Senator Kolawole Ogunwale and Lagos State ADC Chairman, Mr. George Ashiru.

Atiku further pointed out that whoever clinches the party’s presidential ticket will be a true representative of Nigeriansin the 2027 elections.

Naija Blog reports that the ADC is positioning itself as a strong alternative ahead of the next general election, with increasing defections and high-profile endorsements strengthening its base.
