The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan stands no chance of winning the 2027 presidential election, regardless of the political party he chooses to contest under.
APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, made this known while reacting to speculations that Jonathan may be considering aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the polls.
Naija News recalls that Jonathan recently met with the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Abuja on September 12, and later held talks with ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, alongside other coalition leaders on September 25. However, he has not officially declared his political intentions.
Speaking in an interview with The Punch, Ibrahim noted that the APC had already defeated Jonathan in 2015 despite his confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our party defeated him when he was full of confidence in the PDP, and the PDP was full of confidence in itself—so much that it thought it was going to rule the country for 60 years. How can our party not beat him now that he has lost confidence in that party and has joined a party that has no bearing at all?” he said.
The APC spokesman further argued that defeating Jonathan in 2027 would be “easy,” describing the ADC as disorganized and lacking nationwide influence.
“With the overwhelming support of Nigerians that we enjoy, the APC will defeat him in the 2027 race regardless of his political party,” Ibrahim added.
