Elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai, has suggested that the North could support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Yakasai explained that he personally supports continuity in government, stressing that the North does not want a government’s tenure cut short before completing its projects.
He, however, noted that it would be difficult for the region to speak with one voice due to its large population, diverse ideas, and political leanings.
“I am one of those that have been in the forefront in support of continuity in government,” Yakasai said. “What we want is a government that will not only complete its constitutionally allowed tenure but also finish its policies and projects within set timelines before handing over.”
The elder statesman further endorsed democracy as the best system of government, arguing that it offers stability in managing national affairs.
