Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has disclosed that about ₦20 billion has so far been raised towards the completion of the long-delayed National Library project.
Naija News reports that Tinubu made the revelation on Tuesday while hosting State House correspondents to a birthday lunch at the Presidential Villa to mark her 65th birthday.
According to her, the library project is her chosen legacy gift to the nation. She explained that instead of receiving cakes, gifts, and birthday adverts, she urged Nigerians to channel their goodwill into supporting the completion of the National Library.
“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong in doing well?” she asked.
The First Lady recalled her 12 years in the Senate where she served on the Committee on Education, adding that her humble upbringing shaped her appreciation for the value of libraries.
“From a humble background, the library played a role in my life. That’s why I thought this is a worthy cause,” she said.
Tinubu stressed that education remained central to Nigeria’s growth and pledged to sustain her commitment to projects that will benefit future generations.
She confirmed that the ₦20 billion was raised through the Oluremi @65 Education Fund initiative.
