Lagos, Nigeria — A Nigerian man has stirred controversy online after calling on the federal government to rename the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @TheoAbuAgada, made the suggestion shortly after Buhari’s remains were returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom where he died.
@TheoAbuAgada wrote: “UNILAG should be named after Buhari. We must honour our ex-president.”
His statement has since triggered a wave of reactions, with many Nigerians expressing divergent views on the proposal.
