Naija Blog - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the online pre-registration of voters, marking the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, INEC urged eligible Nigerians, especially first-time voters, to begin their registration via the online portal at www.cvr.inecnigeria.org.
The pre-registration portal allows applicants to input their personal details — including name, date of birth, residential address, and preferred polling unit — and schedule a date for in-person completion of the registration process.
According to INEC, the portal will also cater to those seeking transfers of voting locations, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or corrections of personal information.
“In-person registration starts Monday, August 25, at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area (LGA) offices nearest to you,” the commission announced.
INEC further revealed that registration centers will later be expanded across the country, based on assessments of security conditions and other logistical factors.
The commission emphasized that the CVR exercise is strictly for Nigerians aged 18 and above, warning against multiple registrations, which will attract penalties.
INEC encouraged citizens to seize the opportunity to register, stressing that voter registration remains vital to inclusive democratic participation.
The exercise will continue for several months, after which a preliminary voter register will be published for public scrutiny before finalizing the list of eligible voters for the 2027 general elections.
