Journalist and founder of Media Room Hub, Azuka Ogujiuba, has accused officers attached to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of unlawfully detaining her for three days over the publication of a court injunction on her Instagram page.
Ogujiuba, while addressing journalists, alleged that two officers identified as Moses Jolugbo and Ifeoma Ogoli orchestrated her ordeal following a petition by businessman Adewale Oladapo, who accused her of cyberbullying and defamation.
She explained that what she shared was an official court injunction, not defamatory content, stressing that over 20 media organisations had also published the same document. “Why am I the only one being targeted?” she asked.
Recounting her experience, the journalist said she first honoured an invitation to the IGP’s office on August 6 but was later forcefully picked up from her office during an interview session. According to her, the officers harassed her in front of her guest, seized her phone, and whisked her away.
Ogujiuba alleged that she was locked up for three days without food, denied access to her lawyer and family, and threatened at gunpoint. “I was traumatised. Misused authority was used on me. They are giving the Nigerian police a bad name,” she lamented.
She maintained that her detention was instigated by the two officers and expressed confidence that the Inspector General of Police was not aware of the incident.
