A Nigerian man, Ubong Uwak, has come under fire on social media after seeking a new relationship just weeks before the burial of his late wife, Glory Ubong Uwak.

Ubong, aged 41, made the controversial move on July 9, 2025, by posting in a popular Christian singles Facebook group, declaring his interest in meeting a "God-fearing sister"—even as preparations continued for his wife's burial scheduled for August 1 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

“Good morning God-fearing faithfuls. I’m Ubong Uwak from Nigeria, 41yrs. Widower, no kids yet, hoping to have someday. Let’s praise God together. Feel free to message. New here. I need a God-fearing sister,” he wrote.

Public Mourning and Mixed Reactions

Just eleven days later, on July 20, Ubong took to his personal Facebook page to share an obituary flyer and mourn his late wife, writing:

“Princess, I can’t still place my hands on what happened. But God will avenge your death. God be with you till we meet again. I will love you till eternity. Rest on.”

The couple reportedly married in 2020 and had no children. The cause of Glory’s death remains unclear.

However, Ubong’s online activities sparked a storm of criticism, with many users questioning the timing of his relationship search and the authenticity of his grief.

Social Media Divided

One user, Sandra Okereke, voiced her concern:

“Dear young woman, please, don’t go and die for nothing o. Glory is yet to be buried but just imagine what the husband of her youth is doing on Facebook! Her death is still questionable. It is well.”

Others labeled Ubong’s move as insensitive, with some calling for a deeper look into the circumstances surrounding Glory’s death. Meanwhile, a minority defended him, citing his right to move on with life and find healing.
