The Dumont family has officially solidified its hold on the Dallas Mavericks, with Sivan and Patrick Dumont purchasing Miriam Adelson’s stakes to secure a 69% controlling interest in the NBA franchise.
Patrick Dumont, who serves as the Mavericks' governor and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Co., confirmed the takeover and reaffirmed the family’s commitment to building a premier future for basketball in North Texas. Meanwhile, former majority owner Mark Cuban retains a 27% stake, though Dumont holds an option under the 2023 sale terms to purchase an additional 20% share over time.
Dumont’s tenure as governor has been marked by bold moves, sweeping changes, and aggressive investments:
🏀 Basketball Operations Overhaul
Following fan backlash over trading superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers and a front-office reset, Dumont reshaped the organization:
Leadership Pivot: Fired former GM Nico Harrison and brought in championship-winning executive Masai Ujiri as team president to lead all basketball decisions.
New Coaching & Front Office: Ujiri appointed national champion coach Dusty May to replace Jason Kidd and brought in general manager Mike Schmitz.
Rebuilding Spark: The franchise is now building around Cooper Flagg, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year selected with the No. 1 overall pick.
🏢 Corporate & Leadership Restructuring
Dumont has transformed eight of the 11 senior executive roles on the business side, bringing in veteran leadership to execute a long-term vision:
Rick Welts, the legendary Hall of Fame executive who spearheaded Golden State's Chase Center project, was recruited as CEO in 2025 to guide the arena transition.
Ethan Casson, former Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx CEO, joined as team president and is set to succeed Welts upon his retirement at the end of the year.
🏟️ World-Class Arena & Facility Upgrades
The family is committing massive resources toward player amenities and infrastructure:
Facility Upgrades: Eight-figure renovations are underway for both the corporate offices and practice facilities, including the newly opened Champions Performance Kitchen.
New 2031 Arena: The Mavericks signed an option agreement for a 104-acre site at the former Valley View Mall in north Dallas to build a new home by 2031. Dumont plans to leverage his luxury resort development experience (including Macao’s Venetian Arena) to build what he envisions as the finest arena in the NBA.
"My goal is to make the best arena in the NBA... I want to make sure the fans have the best experience possible, because we owe it to them." — Patrick Dumont
