The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, after they honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja.
The duo regained their freedom shortly after midnight on Wednesday following several hours of questioning and were instructed to return to the commission's office on Thursday, July 16, for further engagement.
The development was confirmed by fellow activist Justice Crack, who accompanied Randy Peter and Mama Pee to the EFCC headquarters and provided updates via his 𝕏 account.
According to him, both activists arrived at the commission's office at about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, and remained there for several hours before they were eventually allowed to leave.
"My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee_ were invited by the EFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day," Justice Crack wrote.
Providing an update after their release, he added:
"They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine."
Justice Crack also shared a video from the car park of the EFCC headquarters while waiting for the activists to conclude their meeting with officials.
Social Media Anxiety Over Delay
Before news of their release emerged, concern had spread across social media after reports indicated that the activists remained inside the EFCC headquarters for several hours after honouring the invitation.
Earlier, Esther Umoh, who served as a photographer during Peter Obi's 2023 presidential campaign, had raised concerns on 𝕏, stating that Randy Peter and Mama Pee had not been released by the commission.
The prolonged questioning fueled speculation online, with some users fearing the activists had been arrested.
However, those concerns were eased after Justice Crack confirmed that both individuals had been released and asked to return to the EFCC for further engagement.
EFCC Yet to Explain Invitation
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not disclosed the reason behind the invitation extended to Randy Peter and Mama Pee.
The commission has also not issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the questioning or the nature of the matter under investigation.
