Nigeria Secures Freedom for Six Citizens Held in Côte d’Ivoire

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians living or travelling overseas to respect the laws and regulations of their host countries. Citizens are also encouraged to maintain valid travel documents and contact the nearest Nigerian embassy or consulate whenever they encounter legal or emergency situations.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully secured the release of six Nigerians who had been detained in Côte d’Ivoire following months of diplomatic engagement between both countries.

According to government officials, the release was made possible through sustained negotiations led by Nigerian diplomatic representatives, who worked closely with Ivorian authorities to resolve the matter peacefully.

The six citizens, who had remained in detention for several months, have now regained their freedom and are expected to reunite with their families. Authorities said the development reflects Nigeria’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its citizens, both at home and abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to the Government of Côte d’Ivoire for its cooperation throughout the process. The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to providing consular support to Nigerians facing legal or humanitarian challenges in foreign countries.
