President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse across Nigeria.
Speaking during the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Tinubu stressed that the illegal drug trade continues to pose a serious threat to national security, public health, and the future of Nigerian youths. He assured Nigerians that his government will continue to support security agencies, particularly the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and bring offenders to justice.
The President also called on parents, schools, religious organizations, and community leaders to play active roles in educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse. According to him, combating drug-related crimes requires collective responsibility and sustained public awareness.
He reiterated that Nigeria remains committed to collaborating with international partners to curb the movement of illicit drugs across borders while strengthening measures to prevent drug abuse within the country.
