According to the Maritime Component of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), increased rainfall and rising water levels have made river transportation more dangerous, with stronger currents creating serious risks for passengers and boat operators.
The military urged all travelers to wear life jackets before boarding boats and warned operators against overloading their vessels. Authorities also advised boat owners to ensure that emergency safety equipment is available on board at all times.
In addition, security officials reminded operators that night-time sailing remains prohibited and called on residents to immediately report suspicious activities around waterways to security agencies.
Meanwhile, fresh information has also emerged regarding the explosion along the Bagega–Anka road in Zamfara State. Reports indicate that casualties were recorded after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated in the area.
