[IPOB LEADERSHIP CHANGE]: Chris Nwaọgụ Accepts Appointment as Head of Directorate of State, Unveils Priorities

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a new leadership transition within its Directorate of State (DOS), with Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ formally accepting his appointment as Head of the 4th Administration of the body.

In an acceptance speech dated June 18, 2026, Nwaọgụ said he accepted the responsibility bestowed on him by IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as a sacred mandate that comes with immense responsibility and expectations from Biafrans across the world.

The newly appointed DOS head paid tribute to Kanu, praising his resilience and commitment to the Biafra cause despite years of detention and legal battles. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of individuals detained or affected in connection with the separatist movement.

Outlining the priorities of the new administration, Nwaọgụ said securing the unconditional release of Kanu and other detained Biafran agitators would remain the group's foremost objective.

He further disclosed that the administration would intensify diplomatic engagements in the United States, Europe and Israel in a bid to advance international awareness and support for the Biafran cause.

Addressing security concerns in the South-East, Nwaọgụ reiterated IPOB's commitment to what he described as lawful efforts aimed at protecting communities in the region. He also rejected allegations linking IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to insecurity in the area, describing such claims as part of a misinformation campaign against the movement.

According to him, one of the major objectives of the new administration would be to improve public understanding of IPOB's activities and objectives through advocacy, public engagement and information campaigns.

The IPOB leader also called for unity within the organization, urging members to avoid internal disputes and focus on the group's collective goals.

Speaking on the future of the South-East, Nwaọgụ said IPOB remains committed to peaceful self-determination and reiterated the group's long-standing demand for a referendum as the democratic means of determining the political future of the Igbo people.

He also welcomed ongoing discussions about the future of Ndigbo, referencing recent comments by Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and stated that IPOB would participate in any credible dialogue concerning the aspirations of the Igbo nation.

Nwaọgụ announced that the full composition of the 4th Administration of the Directorate of State would be unveiled in the coming days through official IPOB communication channels, including Biafra Radio.

He also commended members of the outgoing 3rd Administration for their contributions during what he described as one of the most challenging periods in the history of the movement.

The speech concluded with a call for unity among IPOB members and renewed support for the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, as the organization continues to pursue its objectives.
