ADO-EKITI, NIGERIA — June 20, 2026
Voting is currently underway across Ekiti State as eligible voters head to the polls to choose their governor for the next four years. The election, organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, is taking place across all 16 local government areas of the state.
Reports from several polling units indicate that election materials arrived early in many locations, while voters turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise. Some polling units experienced minor delays before voting commenced, but the process has generally been peaceful.
Security personnel have been deployed across major roads and polling centres to maintain law and order during the election. Authorities have also enforced movement restrictions in parts of the state to ensure a smooth voting process.
The governorship contest is widely seen as a major battle between incumbent governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC and PDP candidate Wole Oluyede, although several other political parties are also participating in the race. Political observers say voter turnout and grassroots support could play a decisive role in determining the outcome.
With more than one million registered voters expected to participate, attention is now focused on polling units across the state as votes are cast and counted. Official results are expected to be announced by INEC after the completion of voting and collation.
NaijaBlog News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as results begin to emerge.
