‘I Remain IPOB Spokesperson’ — Emma Powerful Dismisses Sack Rumours, Alleges Sabotage

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed reports suggesting a change in its spokesperson, as Comrade Emma Powerful reaffirmed his position and authority within the group.

In an internal memorandum dated April 9, 2026, Powerful insisted that he remains the authentic spokesperson of IPOB, stating that only the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has the authority to appoint or remove officials within the movement.

Reacting to a circulating flyer that allegedly announced his removal, the IPOB spokesman described the document as “false, fraudulent, and of no consequence,” urging members worldwide to disregard it entirely.

He emphasized that IPOB operates under a strict and centralized leadership structure, noting that any attempt to challenge or alter that hierarchy amounts to sabotage. According to him, no individual or faction within the group has the power to make leadership changes outside the directive of Kanu.

Powerful further alleged that recent internal disagreements and claims denying his role are part of a coordinated effort to destabilize the organization from within. He accused external forces, including the Nigerian government and its collaborators, of attempting to infiltrate the group and create confusion among members.

The spokesman warned that tactics such as spreading false directives, denying established leadership roles, and introducing unauthorized voices are aimed at weakening IPOB’s unity and discipline.

Reaffirming his commitment, Powerful stated that he would continue to carry out his duties and uphold the structure of the movement, stressing that IPOB remains a “disciplined freedom fighting organization.”

He also issued directives to members, urging them to ignore unauthorized communications, avoid internal conflicts, and remain focused on the group’s objectives.

IPOB, which has been at the center of agitation for the restoration of Biafra, continues to face internal and external challenges, including the detention of its leader, Kanu, and ongoing security concerns in parts of southeastern Nigeria.
