IPOB Knocks FG’s Terrorism List, Labels It ‘Global Misinformation Plot’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has faulted the Nigerian government over its recently released terrorism sponsors list, describing it as a misleading document designed to distort facts and misinform the global community.

In a statement dated April 13, 2026, the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the publication lacks credibility and was created to cover up deeper issues within the country’s security framework.

IPOB, under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, argued that the move reflects what it called an attempt by authorities to shift attention away from longstanding concerns about the handling of civil unrest and agitations in parts of the country.

The group maintained that labeling individuals or groups without what it described as clear and verifiable evidence undermines the seriousness of counter-terrorism efforts and raises concerns about fairness and accountability.

According to the statement, IPOB views the development as part of a broader strategy to weaken its campaign for self-determination, insisting that its activities remain lawful in several jurisdictions outside Nigeria.

The organisation also rejected any association between its members and acts of terrorism, stressing that its objectives are rooted in what it described as the legitimate right of people to seek self-determination.

IPOB further claimed that attempts to portray it negatively on the international stage would not stand, noting that such narratives would face scrutiny in countries where the group operates openly.

The group reiterated that it would not be deterred by what it termed “political labeling,” adding that its agitation would continue despite the controversy surrounding the list.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official reaction from the Federal Government regarding IPOB’s latest claims.
