A fire broke out on Thursday morning at the Madrid residence of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred in La Moraleja, an upscale neighbourhood in Alcobendas, north of the Spanish capital.
Vinicius, 24, was not at home when the fire started. The Brazilian international is currently away on national team duty, training ahead of friendlies against South Korea and Japan on October 10 and 14.
According to emergency officials, the blaze is believed to have originated in a sauna located in the basement of the property. Preliminary findings suggest an electrical malfunction sparked the fire, which destroyed the sauna and sent thick smoke billowing through the stairwell to the upper floors.
Two firefighting units from Madrid’s regional emergency service responded promptly after receiving a call around 11 a.m., joining local police officers who had already begun efforts to contain the flames. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control before it could spread further, and later ventilated the building to clear out the smoke.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or smoke inhalation cases were reported. The operation concluded shortly after noon, with an investigation now underway to determine the exact cause of the electrical fault.
Vinicius Jr, who joined Real Madrid in 2018 and has since become one of the club’s standout players, has not yet commented publicly on the incident. Officials said the property will undergo necessary repairs once inspections are complete.
