[Breaking News]: Popular Nigerian Elder Statesman is Dead

Renowned broadcaster, diplomat, and elder statesman, Dr Christopher Kolade, has passed away at the age of 92.

His family announced his death in a statement released on Thursday, confirming that he died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the family said in part.

Born on December 28, 1932, Dr Kolade led a distinguished career spanning broadcasting, academia, diplomacy, and corporate governance.

A respected voice of integrity and leadership, he served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and previously as Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).

Throughout his lifetime, Dr Kolade was celebrated for his commitment to ethical leadership, education, and national development — values that earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s most admired elder statesmen.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
