Ange Postecoglou brutally sacked by Nottingham Forest MINUTES after full-time in Chelsea defeat

Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou just 39 days after appointing him as head coach, with the decision announced minutes after the team’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly left his seat midway through the match at the City Ground, and the club confirmed Postecoglou’s dismissal only 19 minutes after full-time.

The Australian manager, who took charge on September 9, failed to record a single win in his eight games across all competitions.

In a statement, the club said:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.”

Postecoglou’s short-lived tenure now ranks as the second-shortest managerial reign in Premier League history, behind Sam Allardyce’s 30-day spell at Leeds United in 2023. Les Reed’s 40 days at Charlton Athletic in 2006 sits just above Postecoglou’s 39-day stay.

The 59-year-old had succeeded Nuno Espírito Santo, who was also dismissed by Marinakis after reportedly clashing with Edu, Forest’s head of global football.

This marks Postecoglou’s second Premier League sacking in four months, having been dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year despite leading them to a historic Europa League triumph — the club’s first trophy in 17 years.

He leaves Nottingham Forest languishing in 17th place, just one spot above the relegation zone.

The club is expected to announce an interim manager as they look to stabilize their campaign and avoid another relegation fight.
