The
Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unstoppable ahead of the
2027 general elections, dismissing suggestions that
ethnic or religious politics could threaten his re-election bid.
In a statement released on Saturday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said Nigeria’s political landscape has evolved beyond the era of divisive tactics.
Oladejo’s statement was a direct response to recent comments by journalist and politician Dele Momodu, who suggested that opposition parties could only defeat Tinubu by fielding a strong northern candidate and exploiting regional and religious sentiments.
Reacting, Oladejo said such strategies are outdated, emphasizing that Nigerians now prioritize competence over identity.
“Let it be known that the days of weaponising ethnicity as a shortcut to power are long gone,” he stated. “The Nigerian electorate has evolved. They are now focused on who can deliver results, not who can divide the nation.”
He added that Nigerians are largely satisfied with Tinubu’s leadership, urging Momodu—who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—to concentrate on building his new political platform.
“This administration is proving that leadership is about ideas, not identity. Political realists have accepted the defeat of the opposition come 2027, individually and collectively,” Oladejo declared.
He concluded that the next election would serve as a referendum on performance rather than sentiment, insisting that “Dele Momodu’s brand of political showmanship will have no place” in modern Nigerian politics.
