ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has stirred controversy after declaring that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, can never become Nigeria’s president.
Wike made the bold assertion while speaking on Sunday at a public event, as captured in a video posted by @ChuksEricE on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The remarks come amid growing momentum behind a proposed ADC-led opposition coalition aimed at unseating the APC in the 2027 general elections.
“Obi Can Never Be President” – Wike
Wike directly dismissed Peter Obi’s chances, accusing the former Anambra governor of lacking the moral standing to lead Nigeria.
“For eight years, he was governor, and he didn’t conduct a single local government election. Never. Only you, governor of all the local governments,” Wike said.
He also condemned Obi’s frequent party defections:
“In 1999, you were in the party. In 2006, you were in another party. In 2014, you moved to another party. In 2019, you came back to another one. In 2025, you’re moving again—to rescue who?”
Wike Drags Aregbesola Too
Wike didn’t stop at Obi. He took aim at former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, criticizing his record in office.
“You were the Minister of Interior, but under you, people spent weeks, months, even years before they could get an international passport,” he said.
Wike mocked the idea that individuals like Aregbesola are now part of the group claiming they want to “rescue Nigeria.”
