Moment an FCMB Customer Was Caught After Hiding in Toilet Overnight as to Hack Their System

Owerri, Imo State – Tension erupted at a branch of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Owerri after a man who allegedly hid in the bank’s ceiling overnight was discovered and violently assaulted by security personnel.

According to a viral video seen by SaharaReporters, the unidentified man entered the FCMB branch during working hours on Tuesday, pretending to be a regular customer. He then reportedly locked himself inside the bank’s restroom, accessed the ceiling void, and remained hidden until the bank closed for the day.

A social media user, Bishop, who shared the incident on X (formerly Twitter), revealed, “Yesterday, a customer entered FCMB branch at Secretariat. He went to the toilet, climbed into the ceiling, and waited until staff left. At night, he descended and attempted to hack the systems before locking himself in. This morning, colleagues discovered the door locked from the inside, broke in, and found someone in the ceiling. Upon turning on the system, it displayed a message stating, ‘Restarting. Click OK to accept.’”

Upon discovering the intrusion, bank staff alerted security operatives who stormed the facility. In the video, the suspect is seen being dragged out of the premises and physically assaulted, an act that has since sparked public outrage.

Social media users have expressed mixed reactions—some questioned the security lapses that allowed the intrusion, while others condemned the violent handling of the suspect.

A user, Rarebred, wrote: “Why are Nigerian police officers unprofessional? Look how they’re dressed! Beating the suspect stomping on his head and chest. He might sustain internal bleeding from that and die even before investigation! Stupid police officers!”

Another user, Tolu, added: “He was caught on camera, and still got brutalised by the police. Nigerian banks and police? Same demons, different dress codes. One wears suits, the other guns. Both powered by hypocrisy and zero accountability. Let’s ask ourselves why the brutality started with the bank staff.”

Reacting to the disturbing footage, the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the actions of the officers involved. He stated via his official X handle:

"Unprofessional conduct. Too bad. Many indecent acts were spotted in the video. We will look into it holistically. Thanks. @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG."

As investigations continue, questions remain over the bank’s internal security protocols and the professionalism of law enforcement agencies in handling suspects.
