- "I Did Not Betray Atiku" — Garba Shehu Defends Role Under Buhari, Unveils Memoir
- I didn’t betray Atiku to serve Buhari- Garba Shehu
(NAIJA BLOG)— Former presidential spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu, has dismissed allegations that he betrayed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by choosing to serve President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Tuesday to unveil his new memoir, “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience”, Shehu clarified the circumstances surrounding his appointment and political alignment.
“I did not betray Atiku,” Shehu declared. “All those who contested against Buhari during the APC primaries in 2014—including Atiku—contributed their campaign structures to support Buhari once he won the ticket.”
The veteran journalist and former president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors explained that his appointment as Buhari’s campaign spokesperson—and later as the presidential media aide—stemmed from that joint political effort.
The memoir, slated for public presentation on July 9, chronicles Shehu’s time as the voice of the presidency and shares insights into power, politics, and public communication at the highest level.
Key political figures and media personalities are expected to attend the formal book launch.
