Erika Kirk, widow of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has publicly forgiven Tyler Robinson, the man accused of murdering her husband.
Naija News reports that she made the declaration on Sunday during a memorial service held in honor of her late husband. Charlie Kirk was shot dead on September 10, and Robinson has been charged with first-degree aggravated murder. Utah County Attorney General Jeff Gray has stated that the state intends to pursue the death penalty against him.
During the memorial, Erika Kirk spoke candidly about her grief and the moment she saw her husband’s body at the hospital. She shared how, despite the tragedy, she found solace in her Christian faith and chose forgiveness over revenge.
“I forgive him because it was what Christ did. And it is what Charlie would do,” she said. “I’ve had so many people ask, ‘Do you feel anger toward this man? Do you want to seek the death penalty?’ I told our lawyer, I want the government to decide this. I do not want that man’s blood on my ledger.”
The 36-year-old widow received a standing ovation as she reflected on her husband’s life, their time together, and the pain of his sudden death. She described seeing a faint smile on his face at the hospital, which she said revealed “a great mercy from God” and assured her that her husband did not suffer.
Erika Kirk emphasized that while she leaves the legal consequences to the justice system, her focus remains on love and faith, rather than hatred or vengeance.
