Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, demonstrated resilience and elite football prowess on Saturday night as they overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2 and win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The thrilling final, held in Rabat, began with a shock for the nine-time champions as the hosts struck early. Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring with a powerful finish, followed shortly by a second goal from Sanaa Mssoudy, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

However, the Super Falcons, renowned for their tournament experience and mental toughness, returned in the second half with renewed determination. Esther Okoronkwo sparked the comeback with a confidently converted penalty. Moments later, she turned provider, delivering a precise cross that Folashade Ijamilusi headed in to equalize.

The dramatic turnaround was completed when Jennifer Echegini latched onto a well-delivered free-kick and fired home a late winner, sealing a historic tenth WAFCON title for Nigeria — the most by any national team in the tournament’s history.

This victory not only reaffirms Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also highlights the team’s depth, adaptability, and tactical discipline under pressure. With this achievement, the Super Falcons have further solidified their legacy on the continent.
