Media personality and former presidential media aide, Reuben Abati, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his remarks about former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Wike, while speaking on Monday, September 1, had claimed that Obi “lacks character” and should not return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such a move would “kill” the party. He argued that Obi had once described the PDP as “rotten” and returning to the platform would further expose inconsistency in character.

Reacting during a broadcast on Arise TV Tuesday morning, Abati faulted Wike’s comments, stressing that the FCT Minister had no moral grounds to lecture anyone about character.

“Wike is saying that PDP will be destroyed if Peter Obi comes back because he doesn’t have the character, having once condemned PDP as a rotten party. But Wike is not in a position to talk about character,” Abati said.

“If he wants to talk about character, he should first question his own. I do not understand why people have problems with basic intelligence and decorum. He goes on television to say Peter Obi doesn’t have character. Meanwhile, Peter Obi left PDP, went to Labour Party, now he is in ADC. In fact, it is Wike himself that destroyed the party.”

Abati also accused Wike of reckless and unintelligent political commentary, adding that the former Rivers State governor had attacked several key figures, including Goodluck Jonathan and Nasir El-Rufai, without justification.

The exchange adds fresh tension to ongoing debates about potential political realignments ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.
