Controversial Nigerian activist and social media commentator, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has voiced his disappointment over singer Naira Marley’s decision to forgive Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, following her alleged defamatory comments in the wake of Mohbad’s death.
In a video posted on his TikTok page, VDM disclosed that he had advised Naira Marley to take legal action against Iyabo Ojo for defamation and cyberbullying, citing the damage her statements had done to the singer’s image during the intense public backlash that followed the death of rising music star Mohbad.
“I told Naira Marley to detain Iyabo Ojo, but he said Allah will judge,” VDM stated in the video. “I told him to lose his cool when we entered the Police Commissioner’s office and make it clear that Iyabo Ojo’s remarks had destroyed his career and reputation. But as soon as she apologized in Yoruba, Naira Marley forgave her. I was shocked and deeply disappointed.”
VDM further revealed that Naira Marley’s close associate, Sam Larry, was also displeased with the decision to let the matter go. According to him, Sam Larry protested and even became emotional when the apology was accepted.
“When Sam Larry saw that Naira Marley had accepted Iyabo Ojo’s apology, he protested. I was signaling Naira Marley not to accept it, knowing that Iyabo may not uphold her end of the deal. Sam Larry shed tears,” VDM said.
It is worth recalling that Naira Marley and Sam Larry were previously accused of having a hand in Mohbad’s death. However, both men were cleared of any wrongdoing by a court ruling issued four months ago.
The video has sparked renewed discussions online about accountability, defamation, and the emotional toll of public allegations in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
