The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have issued a stern warning to NaijaOnPoint over what they describe as defamatory labeling and biased reporting.

In a strongly worded statement released by IPOB’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group condemned the continuous use of the term “proscribed” by NaijaOnPoint when referring to IPOB, describing it as an insult and an act of provocation.

“We are aware of the media tactics being used to delegitimize our movement. Let it be known that if NaijaOnPoint does not desist from using the word ‘proscribed’ in its reports, IPOB will be left with no choice but to take legal action,” Powerful warned.

He emphasized that other media organizations have long ceased using the term, recognizing the sensitivity and implications of such language. “Why is NaijaOnPoint still using it? They must be foolish,” he added.

Meanwhile, IPOB and ESN also raised concerns over what they called the ongoing profiling and harassment of innocent civilians in the South-East by Nigerian security forces. They claim that individuals are being unlawfully arrested and tagged as IPOB or ESN members without credible evidence.

IPOB called on the international community and human rights organizations to take note of the developments, urging an end to what it described as the systematic oppression of Biafrans.
