Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has named his squad for the opening fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, combining seasoned veterans with some of the brightest young talents in European football.

La Roja will begin their journey with two challenging away matches — facing Bulgaria in Sofia on Thursday, September 4, followed by a crucial clash against Turkey in Konya on Sunday, September 7. Both fixtures will kick off at 20:45 local time.

The announcement was made on Friday at the Royal Spanish Football Federation headquarters in Las Rozas. De la Fuente is set to address the media later in the day, while the squad will assemble at the Ciudad del Fútbol training base on Monday, September 1.

Among the standout inclusions are Barcelona teenagers Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, whose rapid rise at club level has secured them senior call-ups. Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino, alongside Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella, further highlight the squad’s Premier League influence.

Veterans such as Alvaro Morata, Dani Carvajal, and Rodrigo provide experience and leadership, while youngsters like Fermin Lopez and Dean Huijsen represent the future of Spanish football.
